Abstract
Almost 100 years after Neue Sachlichkeit, the question of how to reconnect with the construction of reality and the pervasiveness of technology has led to remarkably similar forms of expression in today's post-digital renderings: restrained and sober scenarios, pensive characters, strange light conditions, material tactility and a general sense of nostalgia. Architectural imagery across most architecture schools and new architecture practices seems to have evolved beyond the precipitous seduction of rendering engines. A new generation of natively digital architects are seeking more nuanced uses of tools that do not rely on cutting-edge imaging software and sheer processing power. Instead, the potential of architectural drawings to convey a multiplicity of signals and moods, and to express a condition that must be imagined, fantasized and discovered, has been revendicated.
