Could This Be the Future? A collection of ARCH4FUTURE built examples

This book contains a total of 30 built environment case studies that are exemplary in specific aspects of sustainable architecture. Key drawings were made to illustrate key sustainability principles to the reader. To highlight where they excel – and where there may be shortcomings – they have been mapped against the 10 Climate Emergency Design Themes, where scores of 1 to 3 are given (with 3 being exemplary (i.e., best) in meeting that aspect of sustainability. Of the 30 built environment case studies, nine Finnish and eight virtual field trips in China were undertaken as part of the ARCH4FUTURE project. To provide diversity and different perspectives, a further 13 built examples were selected from the ARCH4CHANGE project to provide three case studies illustrating the richness and diversity in approaches per Climate Emergency Design theme. The built case studies were selected based on specific illustrative sustainability approaches, and in the case of the virtual field trips the ability to visit and permission to record a video. In some cases the architects were interviewed in-situ.
