Abstract

This chapter shows how J.C. Jacobsen, by piecing together specific formal aesthetics in his private house at Carlsberg, created a microcosm that sprang partially from Danish Golden Age culture. The forms and aesthetics of classical antiquity are used as an architectural ‘binding agent’ in a total work that is in fact more complex and composite than one might think at first glance.
