Tectonic Transformations. Or how to build on top of/next to/into existing buildings using contemporary technological solutions?

We can add important, contemporary dimensions to our built heritage by utilizing the methods, tools, materials, techniques and technologies that are currently available to us. The aim of this project is to discuss how to approach our existing (everyday) architecture within the conditions of current building practice. Based on a number of case studies the project explores tectonic relations in architectural meetings between existing buildings and new interventions and line up a number of possible positions. Combinations of in-situ and off-site in the same building and a deliberate use of the industrial and precise opposite the craft based and traditional, or the tailored and specialised opposite the common and general, open up for new dimensions. Not only from a purely architectural point of view, but also regarding solutions of specific, contemporary demands, e.g. energy optimisation, consumption of resources, recycling or user oriented requirements.
