Beskrivelse

The purpose of the project has been to map and understand the resale market in Denmark in the context of the international development of the area. The resale market is growing remarkably and Denmark is in the lead within EU where approximately every 1 out of 10 purchases are second hand.

This has caused for a variety of business models to emerge with a huge potential of redirecting particularly fashion products back in use rather than being discarded.

Based on previous findings from the Take Back of Textiles project running from 2019-2020 the aim of the project has been to further investigate how these platforms operate and create value, and how that links back to the early design development of garments at the design studio of fashion brands. Furthermore, how the resale market actually works and how brands might see the market as an opportunity for creating new revenue streams that are contributing to longer lifespans of garments and a more circular mindset of the industry.

Nøgleresultater

As a key result is was found that the resale market is still very immature and that the drive on very different logics and mechanisms than conventional sales channels like online- or physical sales platforms/retail.

It was also found that there is currently a very diverse way of establishing and driving resale platforms that leaves plenty of space for the market to be further developed.

Most importantly, the project finding was that the more fashion products are developed from the start, the better they perform in use - and therefore also on the resale market.
