Artistic Research Network on Extractivism in the North

The purpose of forming an Artistic Research Network on Extractivism in the North (ARNEN) is to initiate a network of artists and research architects that have a shared interest in understanding and questioning contemporary extractivist paradigms and resource extraction in the North and the Nordic region.

Our aim is to collectively generate and share knowledge. The ambition is to center the network’s activities around joint artistic research trips to specific sites of extraction and processing within the North.

A pilot trip to Sulitjelma in Northern Norway/Sápmi with the three founding members took place in October 2024. The first public event n collaboration with PASS – Center for Practice-based Art Studies for a one-day seminar on resource extraction in the geographical North.
