Beskrivelse
International Panel: Community design utilizes a range of tools and models, which are meant to enhance the efficacy and outcome of the project. The difference betweentraditional design and community design, when using these tools, is in the
dynamics of the relationship between the designers, the participants, and the
community as a whole. Participatory action research (PAR) is a model is based on the belief that people who use the environment, who are the traditional subjects of research, become active participants in the research and equally active participants in changing the environment. Asset-based community development (ABCD) is a methodology for the sustainable development of communities based on their strengths and potentials. It involves assessing the resources, skills, and experience available in a community; organizing the community around issues that move its members into action; and then determining and taking appropriate action. This method uses the community's own assets and resources as the bases for development; it empowers the people of the community by encouraging them to utilize what they already possess.
Social action is employed by groups and organizations, which seek to alter institutional policies or to make changes in the distribution of power. Their
methods may be abrasive, and participation is the value most clearly articulated
by those who use this approach. This session consists of five presentations,
which will focus on different aspects of social action in design and planning. The
main goal of this session is to demonstrate the language of social action through
key concepts and case studies; particularly how the concept evolved in time into
the current language of community involvement and how the integration of these
methods shapes a community project.
