Beskrivelse
This seminar investigates privacy and productivity in the home from three different angles and disciplines. We wonder if the notion of the domestic represents a historical glitch—where the domestic is understood as a leisurely place for the enjoyment of family and time off work. This seminar looks at the home from the perspective of privacy and productivity—where it is not the domestic that grants privacy but instead productivity: activities connected to labour that provide privacy within the home. Archaeologist Asta Mønsted relates her research on two types of traditional Inuit houses. Because of the extreme climate, a variety of work-related activities take place indoor and grant a unique type of privacy. Art historian Britta Tøndborg will speak about Malergården, which housed not only the Swane family, but also professional activities of the artist and his wife. Agnete Swane designed and built a caravan to expand the workspace beyond the house. (Landscape) architecture theorist Henriette Steiner will describe the struggles with family-life and productivity of a space-traveling sci-fi scientist and her encounters with alien domesticity.| Periode | 7 maj 2024 |
