Beskrivelse
This paper will discuss the term memory in connection with architectural cultural heritage. Historic buildings are interesting when talking about memory because of our perception of the building objects as historic sources. It is a common opinion that cultural heritage buildings have a very clear and important function by being big storage units for knowledge, experiences and skills. Objects with these abilities are often put in museums, but we have this huge amount of lasting objects, buildings, all over the world and often accessible for most people, which can give us even deeper and more sensory experiences with the past. In contrast to museum objects, you can touch the buildings and even enter them to get the full body experience of the object and its stories to tell.Inspired by English Philosopher Timothy Morton (1968-) this paper will approach buildings not only as s containers of time and space but also as objects producing time and space. if we understand buildings as materialistic manifestations of common memory, we have to include our senses as the tool to get access to this information.
The question is what is the relationship between architectural heritage and memory? The paper will state that buildings gives an extra dimension to how we can expand our perception of the relationship between historic objects and memory.
