‘Lock & Load’ is developed from a simple building system, which gives space for a long bench in a group of artificial trees. While you take a break your body will anticipate the including spaces. The structure is an aestetic result from a study work investigating architectural form, sensibility, expression, detailing and stability created by graduate students Magnus Már Thorvardarson, Sebastian Grundgier, Bjarni Árnason and Hans Orri Kristjansson – workshop teacher Lars Henriksen, Associate Professor Emeritus. All materials are WOOD! The thinking in components and a holistic unity were the main concept. NO glue or non-wood materials were allowed for the joints – to introduce more sustainable architecture and detailing. Basic theory and understanding of natural forces such as gravity based compression and tension was fundamental as learning outcome of the architectural investigation. Working method was “trial and error”.
