This seminar features a presentation of the experimental remaking of a historic roof truss by Ph.D. Ulrik Hjort Lassen and carpenter Magnus Frimer-Larsen and a lecture with doctor of ethnology François Calame, chairperson at Carpenters Without Borders and responsible for the reconstruction of a Notre-Dame de Paris main roof truss. The aim is to discuss the meanings and values of craft and culture, materials and ecologies as seen in an international perspective. The focal point is the restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris and the experimental 1:1 remaking of a section of the Børsen roof structure at the Royal Danish Academy with the use of traditional tools and techniques. The seminar is hosted by the Institute of Architecture and Culture – Centre for Sustainable Building Culture.
